New Griot '21 Announces Audition Opportunities

DETROIT, MI - Plowshares Theatre Company will continue its Reopening Season in June when the New Griots Play Festival presents staged readings of three new plays June 18-20.
Dates for Auditions: Due to COVID-19 protocols all auditions will be done virtually. The audition period will begin on Monday, May 17, and run through May 30.
Preparation: Actors interested in auditioning for the staged readings may prepare two contrasting monologues. Both monologues together should not last more than four minutes in length.
Actors may either submit a video up to four minutes in length or do a live audition via Zoom. A link to the video may be sent to: email@example.com.
Zoom Appointments: Actors who want to request a specific Zoom appointment time may do so by calling 313.744.3181.
Audition times will be assigned in five-minute blocks of time will from 4 PM to 9 PM Friday, May 21 and Monday, May 24.
The lineup of new plays includes BROTHERMINE by Karen Chilton, NOTHING TO LOSE by Denise J. Hart, and CRACK THE DOOR FOR SOME AIR by Dr. Mary Weems.

All rehearsal and reading time will be online and no more than 12 hours. Rehearsals will take place over the week before the scheduled reading of each respective play, and will be scheduled according to artist availability.

About the New Griots Play Development Program
The New Griots Play Development Program is a two-year program that includes a summer festival of staged readings. As many as six plays may be chosen for development and presentation throughout the main stage season. As an addition to the program, Plowshares will award a $1000 cash prize to the writer of the play considered “the Best of Festival,” which is a quality script artistically strong and ready for professional production.
