DETROIT — Plowshares Theatre Company is pleased to announce the election of Cinnaire’s Senior Vice President, Detroit Market, Lucius Vassar to its Board of Trustees. Core to Vassar’s role as the theatre’s newest board member will be expanding board leadership with others who are also passionate about African American theater and advancing Plowshares’ mission and vision.
Vassar is a Detroit resident and longtime advocate and supporter of Plowshares. A former actor himself, he previously appeared in two Plowshares Theatre productions including The Talented Tenth, by Richard Wesley, in 1995, and August Wilson’s Two Trains Running, in 1996 where he played Sterling, a young ex-convict trying to get his life in order.
“Lucius’ appreciation for theater, his skill as a community developer, and connections in the legal and political spheres make him a fantastic addition to Plowshares,” said Gary Anderson, producing artistic director and co-founder, Plowshares Theatre Company. “As we prepare to reopen the theatre in 2022, Lucius and other board members will be instrumental in our mission toward developing a permanent home for Plowshares in the near future.”

In addition to his role on the board at Plowshares Theatre, Vassar has served on numerous boards and commissions including Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, Downtown Development Authority, Arts League of Michigan, City Connect Detroit, Detroit Police Foundation, and the Detroit Metro Conventions and Visitors Bureau. He is also a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the National Bar Association, the Wolverine Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Detroit Branch NAACP.
Plowshares plans to bring on several other trustees over the next two years . The effort is designed to bring key skill sets and expertise onto the board to help them achieve their strategic goals for the next 4-5 years. Included among the goals is the acquistition of a permanent home for Plowshares.
