Introducing the Cast of “The Magnolia Ballet”

DETROIT, MI – We proudly announce the casting for the Plowshares Theatre Company’s Detroit Premiere of The Magnolia Ballet, Part 1. Leading the company are Matéo Davis as Ezekiel Mitchell VI or “Z” and David Skillman as Ezekiel Mitchell V. Performances for this endearing coming-of-age tale begin Friday, June 9, and run through Sunday, July 2. Tickets are on sale now.

About the Cast

Matéo Davis plays Z, also known as Ezekiel Mitchell VI. Matéo is currently in his senior year of college, pursuing a B.F.A in Acting at Wayne State University. He has had the privilege of participating in various theatrical productions, including “Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again,” “Marcus; Or the Secret of Sweet,” and “Raissoneur,” where he has had the opportunity to bring complex characters to life. Additionally, Matéo feels incredibly grateful for the chance to be a part of the enchanting production of “The Magnolia Ballet,” collaborating with a talented cast and crew.

David Skillman plays Z’s father, Ezekiel Mitchell V. David is grateful to be making his Plowshares Theatre Company debut with The Magnolia Ballet Part 1. A professional actor for 20 years, in 2019, David moved to Michigan with his wife and two dogs from the city of San Francisco. He has performed locally in the Detroit Repertory Theatre’s “August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean” and Meadow Brook Theater’s production of Kathryn DiSavino’s “Nana Does Vegas.”

Timothy Hackbarth plays Danny Mitchell. He is a student at Michigan State University. Tim just completed his sophomore year. He is seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Before appearing as Danny in the Williamston Theatre version of this production, Tim was seen portraying Chad in Wendy and the Neckbeards at MSU.

Jesse Boyd-Williams plays The Apparition, a mysterious character who takes on the personality of several deceased ancestors. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Acting from Wayne State University. Last summer, Jesse originated the character Emmanuel Wheathers in the world premiere musical Hastings Street.

Written by Terry Guest,  The Magnolia Ballet, Part 1 is directed by Gary Anderson and will be performed at The Carr Center’s New Performance Studio, located inside the Park Shelton, 15 E. Kirby Street at Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48202.
