DETROIT, MI – After a thrilling opening weekend, the Detroit premiere of Terry Guest’s new play, “The Magnolia Ballet, Part 1,” received uniformly strong reviews from enthusiastic audiences. Plowshares patrons have described it as “Moving!,” “Deeply emotional!,” “Beautiful!,” and “Though-provoking!”
The performances are at the Carr Center Performance Studio through July 2, with the show starting at 7:30 PM on Fridays, 8:00 PM on Saturdays, and 3:00 PM on Sundays. The doors open 30 minutes before the show.
“The Magnolia Ballet, Part 1” is the 100th consecutive play mounted by Plowshares Theatre Company either as a full production or in a staged reading. The piece features a quartet of remarkable talents, old and new. The cast includes Jesse Boyd-Williams and Timothy Hackbarth, returning as The Apparition and Danny Mitchell, respectively. They are joined by David Skillman as Ezekiel Mitchell V and Matéo Davis as Ezekiel Mitchell VI, also called Z.
The show has a running time of 95 minutes long, with no intermission.
Theatergoers can select from various general admission seating options inside the Carr Center Performance Studio. Ticket prices start at $38 for adults, $36 for seniors, and $20 for students with ID.

A special Black LGBT Out Night performance will be held on Friday, June 23rd, at 7:30 PM. It will include a post-show discussion with LGBT Detroit Executive Director A. Nzere Kwabena and Equality Michigan Board Chair Buzz Thomas, moderated by playwright and educator Dr. John Shévin Foster. This special event is a joint venture between Plowshares Theatre Company and LGBT Detroit.
Patrons can purchase a special $49 VIP ticket through the link above. VIP ticket prices include a champagne meet and greet reception at 6:00 p.m. before the show and admission to the show.
