Landing Day
August 20
Event Series
(See All)

Landing Day is designed to recognize and highlight the arrival of “20 and odd” captured African men and women who were delivered to Point Comfort in late August 1619. This was a pivotal moment in the nation’s history. The day educates the public about the arrival of of African-Americans to the Americas; it also brings attention to the impact that slavery and laws that enforce racial discrimination have had on the United States, and it acknowledges the resilience and contributions of African-Americans to this nation since 1619.
