A Powerful, Poignant DRama about Love
The Magnolia Ballet is a piece written for our times. This poignant tale mixes drama, dance, and poetry to explore the relationship between a father and his queer son in rural Georgia. Ezekiel VI, or “Z,” is unlike the other boys. The death of his mother has taken a toll on him, and his emotionally distant father, Ezekiel V. Z, and his father struggle to define who they are together and separately in their old family home where the ghosts live inside the walls.
The play has won critical acclaim and awards wherever its been performed. For its Chicago premiere The Magnolia Ballet received two Joseph Jefferson Awards for Excellence - Best Production (Short Run Production - Equity) and Best Performer - (Short Run Production - Equity)
For the 2022-23 Season, the play was awarded a grant from the National New Play Network's David Goldman Fund for Best New American Play.

About The Playwright
A Bright New Voice for the america stage
The Magnolia Ballet is written by newcomer Terry Guest. Guest is a Chicago-based playwright, actor, director and teaching artist. His other plays include A Ghost in Satin, Marie Antionette and the Magical Negroes, At the Wake of a Dead Queen, The Madness of Mary Todd, and Andy Warhol Presents the Cocaine Play. Originally from Georgia, he as acted with several regional theaters including Steppenwolf Theatre, The Goodman Theatre, The Alliance Theatre,Atlanta's Actor's Express, and others.
